The design challenge with this type of site is how to best present a wide range of information for diverse on-campus and global audiences. Themes are another option to use to create a third-generation site. It's tempting to throw in more of everything when you design a themed site, but you should resist the temptation. Too much sound, animation, fonts, and graphics lead to clutter and confuse your visitors. Successful themes are subtle and consistent. Remember simplicity! The web site for Peachpit Press has a fun, friendly theme. Many of Peachpit's books are on technical subjects; this playful theme takes the fear out of nontechie customers.
